Obituary of Susan J. Slack

Susan J. Slack, 56 of Cortland, NY, passed away unexpectedly Sunday January 8, 2017 at Wilson Hospital Binghamton, NY. Born February 21, 1960 in Union City, NJ. The daughter of George and Roberta (Burnett) Lee of Union City, NJ. Sue grew up in Union City and Harrington Park NJ and attended Northern Valley Regional High School Old Tappan, graduating in 1978. She then went on to Cortland State receiving her Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education in 1982. From there, Sue began working at "Garry's Riverside Diner" , prior to marrying her loving husband Garry of 34 years. In 10/22/1983 Sue continued to light up a room with her charismatic enthusiasm & energy at both Rusty Nail and Roccy's Lounge. Sue then began a Fitness Center which continued to be in operation until recent days called "Sun Body Fitness". She excelled at her business , beaming as she trained and guided her clientele to succeed and prosper. She was also hired with Cortland City School District as a teacher assistant, given her larger than life heart, focusing on children with special needs as well as book keeping for CP Cash & Carry. Sue was an amazingly beautiful person who put everyone before herself. She was willing and able to help anyone in any way she could, selflessly. She never asked or expected anything but brought happiness to others. She touched the hearts of all who had the fortune of knowing her and left us all to soon. Sue will be sadly missed and never forgotten. In honor of Sue and to keep her spirit alive, be considerate and kind to someone and call it a "Susie" for the day. Sue is survived by her loving husband Garry R. Slack and daughter Pashlee Elizabeth Slack, and beautiful granddaughter Mariana Elizabeth Slack/Williams. Sue's also survived by sisters Roberta (Shane)Hartman of California, Nancy Lee of New Jersey, Sister in Law; Pam (Mike) Williams of Homer, NY, Brother in-law; Kevin (Debbie) Slack of Homer, NY, Father in-law; Elmer (Jan) Slack of Cortland, NY, nieces; Nicole H., Taylor, Nicole W., and Melissa, nephews; Hudson, Shane Jr., George, and Chad and Cory, and many great niece and nephews. Sue is predeceased by her mother Roberta Lee, Mother in-law; Peggy Slack (Riley) Calling hours will be held Sunday from 10:00am-1:00pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home. 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland.
