Shirley Petrie formerly of Cortland, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Wellspan York Hospital in York, PA. She was born October 27, 1926 in Clark Mills, NY, the daughter of the late Peter J. Berger and Mary Clark Berger, and wife of 51 years to the late Dr. Jack C. Petrie PhD. Shirley liked to tell the story when she born she was smaller than her twin sister Bernice and she was placed in the oven in a roasting pan in lieu of an incubator. She graduated from Clinton High School and Easton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing class of '51. She worked as a RN at Oneida City Hospital, substitute nurse for several school districts and nurse at SUNY Cortland Infirmary. She also travelled with her husband, and together shared many memorable trips together, especially Europe. She was an avid SU fan. She is survived by her sons, Gene (Karen) Petrie of East Syracuse, Peter (Kimberly) Petrie of Abbottstown, PA; her brother, John Berger of Jupiter FL; her sister, Luella Eager of Durham NC; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 10:00-11:00 AM Monday, February 27, 2017, with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Canastota, NY.
