Obituary of Marjorie R. Beard

Marjorie R. Beard, 96, of Cortland passed away March 9, 2017. She was born April 30, 1920 in Cortland the daughter of the late Earle and Grace Wadsworth Tarbell. Marge was a lifelong resident who served the Cortland community in various aspects throughout her life. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Cortland. After her late husband Donald Beard was drafted during WWII, Marge attended and graduated from Simmons Institute of Funeral Service where she obtained her funeral director's license. She served countless families in various aspects of funeral service for over fifty years. Marge served as a trustee for the Cortland Memorial Hospital, board member of the Elizabeth Brewster House, and was past President of the Cortland County Girl Scouts. She is survived by her daughter Virginia and her husband Peter Testa, her granddaughter Kristin and her husband Robert LaFleur, great grandchildren Abigail and Nora, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Donald Beard and her sister Mildred Dickinson. Calling hours will be Sunday 12-2 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Funeral services will be Monday 9:30 am at Wright-Beard Funeral Home with private burial at the Cortland Rural Cemetery.
