Obituary of Murlyn Maricle

Murlyn "Johnny" Maricle, 91, of Cortland and lately of Groton Community Health Care Center, passed away March 13, 2017 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born August 10, 1925 in Cortland Johnny was the daughter of the late Francis S. and Marjorie R. Morey. A lifelong resident of Cortland she graduated from Cortland High School.
She was a lover of all animals always having dogs, cats, and horses. She remained an avid horsewoman into her 70's. She also enjoyed running her dogs in the country until her late 70's.
She was a member of the Country Clackers, a home bureau in the Lansing, Genoa area. She was a dedicated artist and painted Audobon, like birds she sold on Cape Cod and locally. After painting began to be a challenge she sculpted small figures that she sold by traveling to local craft shows. She worked as a cook for a couple of facilities until her retirement.
She is survived by her two daughters Michele Finkelstein, Kimberly (Randy) Holl, her sons Kevin (Mary Ellen) Maricle and Carlton Maricle, grandchildren Karen Frost (Skip), Laurie Donahue (Chris Landon), Eric (Liza) Maricle, Jeffrey Maricle, Tanya (Mark) MacNaughton, Julie Phillips, great grandchildren Evan and Ethan, Benjamin, Adam and Rebecca, Kelsey and Danielle, great great grandchildren Aliyah and Adriana, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Carl Maricle, her daughter Marlene Thomas, her sisters Marjorie (Jack) Boyce, Marion (George) Nettleton, and Madeline Morey.
A calling hour will be held Friday 2-3 pm with a celebration of her life which will be led by family and friends to begin 3 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045.
