Obituary of Mary T. Best

On Monday March 20th 2017, the first day of spring, Mary T. Best, 93, of Cortland passed from this world into eternity at Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was born on August 5, 1923 in Cortland, NY a daughter of the late C. William and Alma Lord Thomas.
Mary was employed as a teller with Cortland Savings bank for twenty five years until her retirement. She was a member of AARP, American Legion Auxiliary, and Order of the Eastern Star, National Active and Retired Federal Employees. Past member of Moose Club and has participated in Community Players. Mary was a member of Disabled American Veterans and had been in several bowling leagues. She was a member of the Homer Avenue United Methodist church and had been a very active member throughout the years. Mary was an avid Syracuse men's basketball fan, and New York Yankee fan especially Derek Jeter.
Mary is survived by one son, John (Kathleen) Stevens, one daughter Sharon (Harold) Knolls, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, and her husband John H. Best Jr.
A calling hour will be held, 11 AM – 12 pm Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Homer Avenue United Methodist Church, 30 Homer Ave., Cortland, NY. A funeral service will follow starting at 12:00 PM at the church. Burial will take place in the spring at Cortland Rural Cemetery. .
