I knew Len ever since I entered the History Department at SUNY Cortland in 1972. For many years our offices were next to one another divided only by a door between. I remember the many, many times we opened that door (especially after he stopped smoking) to share what was going on in our lives and those of our families. We also talked a lot about teaching and history. I was very fond of Len. He supported me in hard times in the department and he was also one of the very sane voices regarding departmental affairs. I treasure my memories of our time together. My best to all the family. Sandy Gutman

My dearest Carol and family. We are so sorry to hear about your father and the husband of your mother. I remember 2 weeks ago inAmsterdam we were still talking together about your dad and how active he still was on his bike! What a schock! Miguel and I feel really pitty for you for the loss of your dearest father! We send you our condoleances! I remember not exactly this poem of Khalil Gibran: If you are crying for the loss of this beloved one Think than of the beautifull moments you spent together and how much happiness that gave to you....
