Dorothy M. Burdorf, 95, of Dryden NY, passed away April 28, 2017 at the Cortland Park and Rehabilitation Center. She was born October 24, 1921 in Cuyler the daughter of the late Floyd and Harriet Garner Bailey. Dorothy graduated from Cortland high School in 1937 at the age of fifteen, then went on to business school also completing the program early. During WWII, she worked for the Army Corp of engineers where she worked on the Manhattan Project, and she served with the Civil Air Patrol. She married her late husband George E. Burdorf in 1947. For most of her life, she was a freelance court stenographer, working for many years in Ithaca. She then attended Tompkins Community College where she learned to operate computers taking employment with George Junior Republic. She retired at the age of 83. She was a member of the Tioughnioga Chapter of the DAR. She is survived by her sons Gregory (Enqing) Burdorf, Michael (Deborah) Burdorf, her daughter Patricia (Rustam) Chinoy, her step children Jean (Charles) Pilat and David (Bonnie) Burdorf, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces Marilee Comerford, Martha Stas, Linda Burns, and nephew William Stas. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, George E. Burdorf and her sister Doris Stas. A graveside service will be held Thursday 1:30 pm at the Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden NY. Contributions may be made Tioughnioga Chapter, DAR, C/O Nancy Barber, Teasurer, Box 63, Marathon NY, 13803.
