Norma J. (Ayers) Tanner, 86, of Cortland passed away April 30, 2017 at the Cortland regional Medical Center. She was born April 30, 1931 in Cortland the daughter of the late Lawrence and Edna Rolfe Ayers. Norma was a lifelong resident of the Cortland/Homer area graduating from Homer High School in 1949. She had been employed with the Cortland Standard, Burgess Clothing Store, and First National Bank of Cortland. She was a member of the Faith Baptist church of Cortland. In her younger years she was active with her children in scouting. Her family will cherish her memory as being family oriented, attending family reunions. She is survived by her children Joanne (Gary) Harrington, Carol (Michael) Dawson, James E. (Karen) Tanner, and David Carr, Janice (Tim) Hurley, and Susan (Kevin) Eisenberg, her sisters Evelyn Long, Jeanette (Gordon) Rood, Martha (Gene) Vossler , her grandchildren, Gary (Paula) Harrington, Jennifer (Bruce) Bristol, Samantha Harrington, Richard Morgan, Rebekah (Richard) LaPan, Marguerite (Carlos) Tejeda Mendez, Kelly (Mike) Howell, Beth Tanner, Jason Zerrillo, Dan Zerrillo, Joe Zerrillo, Amber Kash, Jeremy Kash, Marissa Eisenberg, David Eisenberg, Wendy Carr, Amy(Jeff) Clark, several great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James D. Tanner, her brother Lawrence (Gloria) Ayers Jr., and her sister Muriel (Don) Rood. A calling hour will be held Wednesday 10-11 am with a funeral service to begin 11 am a the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Burial will follow at the Willow Glen Cemetery , Dryden. Contributions may be made to the American Lung Assoc., or Faith Baptist Church.
