Wilber R. "Pete" Peters, 76, of Homer NY, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Born on April 30, 1941 in Syracuse, NY, Wilber was the son of the late, Wilber and Elizabeth Dawley Peters. Wilber spent his career, working with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, as a Forest Ranger. He was with the DEC for 38 years, a long career in which he was very proud. He was also an active member of the Homer Fire Department for 40 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years this Thursday, Dorinda "Welch" Peters of Homer; daughters, Carol (John) Rey of Syracuse, and Dawn (Daniel) Edwards of Cortland; a sister, Donna (Russell) Williamson of North Carolina; 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Alec, Amanda, Adam, and Andrew; 2 great grandchildren in whom were the apple of his eye, Nichole and Natalie, as well as several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, from 3-5pm, at the Homer Ave United Methodist Church in Cortland, with a memorial service to follow at 5pm. Burial will take place at a later date at the Jacksonville Cemetery in Lysander, NY. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Homer Ave United Methodist Church of Cortland or The Homer Fire Department.
