I have many fond memories growing up across the street from the Green family, with the added pleasure and privilege of having Mrs. Green as my 8th grade English teacher. She was a wise and caring woman, and a wonderful friend and neighbor for many years. Sending our thoughts and prayers to the entire family.

I was deeply saddened to read of your mother's passing. I'm a former student in her 8th grade English class in the 1960s.....having graduated from CHS in 1970.
Not only was Mrs. Green an excellent teacher, she was also a kind and compassionate person. I attribute my command of the English language to her! Remember diagramming sentences? Though at the time I wasn't very fond of doing those exercises, they sure helped me learn the different parts of speech! We connected again at Jodi's Hallmark, as she loved that store and it was my part time retirement job. We chatted about everything from kids today, to the deterioration of Main Street, and about her children and grandchildren.
May God give you comfort at this difficult time and strength for the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Janet Stark Griffin

My visits back home to Cortland will never be the same. Meta always provided me with a fun-packed visit. We attended shows at the Cortland Repertory Theater, lunches with hours of conversation, and visits to favorite stores. Even my 19 year old, and 17 year old grandsons remember how much fun Mrs. Green was when they visited Cortland as little boys. She flew paper airplanes with them at the Community Restaurant, and got them out of bed to have a treat from the vending machine, even though, teeth had been brushed, she told them, you can get anything you want!! They still talk about what a cool person she was!!
Tom and Linda, you were truly blessed with a wonderful mother and I am so happy to have had her as a friend for so many years.

To the family of "Mrs. Green",
One of the most prized teachers in my experience at CHS. She was always so very caring, helpful and thoughtful. While I never really liked English, I always enjoyed going to her class. She had a very unique way of making you feel comfortable and welcome. I always enjoyed running into her at the grocery store or out in the community and she always, ALWAYS, remembered your name. A real class act in my eyes and will never ever be forgotten! Many thoughts to the family during this difficult time.

Mrs. Green was one of my favorite teachers. I had difficulty transitioning to junior high school and she took me under her wing and helped me survive!! She listened to me and gave me coping strategies to deal with my fears and anxieties. She was also one of those teachers who remembered me even after I graduated and moved on. She's a huge reason why I became a teacher myself. I'll never forget her!! Rest In Peace, Mrs. Green!

Mrs Green helped me through the most difficult subject, for me. She turned something that I hated into something that I appreciated, and even more so today. Her impact on my life is everlasting.
Thank you so much, and may her memory and the impact she had on students like me live on forever.

Dear Linda and Tommy,
How I loved your mother - she was like a second mom to me. I have so many wonderful memories of the time we spent together. We would talk for hours. I still remember dusting every week at your house. I loved to watch your mom make pies. I remember going out to eat at the Lido with your parents. My first and only water skiing experience was at Green Lake at your camp. I was always intrigued that your mom had a dishwasher at the camp. Your mom was a wonderful teacher - she taught me English in the 8th grade and I greatly credit her with my writing ability. The world has lost a wonderful, kind and generous woman. I will miss her the rest of my days, and I send my love to you and your family. I wish I could be there, however, my husband is undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma. I will be there with you in spirit. Your mom was one of the best people I have ever met and I will never forget her beautiful blue eyes.
Love,
Jill Galbraith Barnard

My sincere sympathies to Mrs. Green's family and in particular to Linda my dear childhood friend. I have fond memories of times spent at your family's cottage and watching the moon landing there. Due up my own family matters I regret being unable to attend the services. May God's love and compassion bring you strength and comfort during this sad time.

I had Mrs. Green for English in Grade 8. Her suggestion that I join Dramatics Club wasn't lost on me. I ended up in several stage productions through high school and college. Bless you, Mrs. Green. You changed my life.

Linda & William - I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful person/mother as Meta was. I have worked in the Cortland School District as of this past July for 30 yrs and started here as the Jr. High Principal's secretary. I met your mother then as an educator and then later turned into a friendship connection after she retired. William, you may remember her talking about a young man by the name of Matthew, or possibly met him. He is my son, and would go down to help her with the awnings, hanging lights, raking, etc and then would also have my daughter, Mallory come help when Matthew couldn't. I was just thinking about her the other day and wanted to stop to see how she was doing, but in talking with someone here, heard she was at the hospital nursing home. Due to some unexpected issues with son, I did not get there. Again, let me say I'm sorry for your loss and that she holds a special place in my heart. God Bless you all as you move forward.
