Obituary of Wilfred H. Withers

Wilfred (Bill) Henry Withers, 89, of Preble, NY passed away on June 25, 2017 at Cortland Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born January 8, 1928 in Summerhill, NY the son of the late Levi and Irene (Pease) Withers.
Preceded in death by Marian Essie Mosher Withers his loving wife and mother of their four children Bryant (Anne) Withers, Bradley (Melody) Withers. Brenda (Mel) Wingier, and Tina (Tony) Stewart. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Withers was raised and educated locally, graduated Cortland high school in 1951. He served briefly with the US Air Force and was medically discharged. He was employed by General Electric for many years. After leaving G.E. He started and ran his own business for several years called Withers Radio & TV. His last place of employment was with SUNY Cortland where he retired from.
Bill had many interests that brought him much joy. He was an organ and piano player and attended many concerts. His family well remember the many evenings he would sit at his three manual Conn pipe organ and delight us with his bouncy pop standards. He enjoyed yearly trips to Canada with friends to camp and fish. He also loved to travel and watch nature and spend time with his children and grandchildren. Bill was a member of Cortland Masonic Lodge 470 and was a Past Master of that lodge and a member of Cortland Commandery 50 and Royal Arch Washington Chapter 29.
Bill (Dad) will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A calling hour will be held Saturday 1-2 pm with a Masonic Service to begin 2pm, followed by a funeral service at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland NY, 13045. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery, Preble.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
