Obituary of Sylvia Chierchio

Sylvia Chierchio, 82, of Cortland passed away on August 8, 2017 at Cortalnd Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 23, 1935 in Belfonte, PA daughter of the late Harry and Ethel Kellerman Schermerhorn. Sylvia was employed by Chris-Craft as a fiberglass manufacturer until the factory closed, she then went to work as a cook for ASC at SUNY Cortland. Sylvia was an avid gardener and enjoyed working with her flowers and always looked forward to drinking coffee on her porch with her neighbors. She enjoyed rearranging and replacing her wallpaper and always enjoyed shopping with her family. Sylvia is survived by two sons, John (Patti) Chierchio, Homer, Scott (Jennifer) Chierchio, Cortland, three daughters, Rose (Dick) Bottoff, Cortland, Linda (Mark) Abbatiello, Saratoga Springs, Carol (David) Pelsang, Jacksonville, NC, one sister, Harriet Smith, San Antonio, TX, seven grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas (Amy), Carla, David, Bethany, Jonathon, Marissa, two great grandchildren, Gabriel, Adrian, and several nieces and nephews. Sylvia is predecased by her loving husband of 47 years, John Chierchio, two sisters, Polly Stark, Mary Harris, and one brother, Robert Schermerhorn. Sylvia's family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Cortland Park Rehabiliation and Nursing Home for their compassion, love and friendship. Calling hours will be held 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. Funeral service will follow the calling hour starting at 11:00 AM at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. Burial will follow in Cortland Rural Cemtery.
