Gerald A Truman, 73 of Cortland NY, passed away Friday August 11, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family after fighting a long courageous battle with Lung Cancer. Jerry was born December 2, 1943 in Oriskany Falls. The son of Paul and Edith Morris Truman.
Jerry was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended Cortland High School, and after serving in the military, in 1974 he became a talented owner/operator of a successful long running business, Jerry Truman's Excavating. Also as proprietor of Cortland Valley Timber, he loved the outdoors and working in the woods.
As owner of a modified, he had a passion for dirt racing and nascar.
Jerry is survived by his wife Nancy of 43 years, children Michael(Lacy) Truman of Cortland, NY, Sabrina(Erik)Larsen of Willet, NY, grandchildren Gaven, Dylan, Logan, Aubrie, Nicholas, Allie and Gage. Close family Dave & Phyllis Heller, William & Shirley Howe and long time friends Robert Homer, Justin Nikulich and Bill Schumacher.
He was predeceased by his brother Francis, mother Edith, father Paul, sister Mary, Father in Law James R Brown and many Aunt's and Uncle's.
Family will be present to receive friends 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, August 14, 2017 at Wright Beard Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland NY. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. Burial will follow in Forrest Hill Cemetery, Blodgett Mills, NY.
Gerald was a loving husband and father. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Special thank you to Lacy Truman for her loving care.
