Obituary of Francis E. King

Francis E. (Frank) King, 93, of Cortland, passed away on Saturday September 30th, at the Cortland Park Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Frank was born on October 21, 1923 in Newark, NY, to his parents the late Harry King and Myrtle "Horn" King. Frank served his country in the United States Army from 1942-1945. In 2015 Frank was recognized for his military service in World War II by taking the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He worked for Brewer Tichner as a machinist for 35 years. Frank was a member of various organizations. He was a past president of the Cortland Kawanis, a past president of the American Legion as well as being a member of the Homer American Legion. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and was an honorary member of the Virgil Fire Department. When not busy with his involvement with these organizations, Frank thoroughly enjoyed camping around the United States and enjoyed playing golf. He will also be remembered as an excellent story teller. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Minnie; daughter Shelby O'Connell of Cortland; brother Gene (Bessie) of Virgil; sister Grace of Zephyrhills Florida; brother-in-law Ralph (Charlene), grandchildren Brian (Nancy) O'Connell and Denise (Brent Hunt) O'Connell; as well as great grandchildren; Cobi, Neve, Kian, Tom, Nick, and Angie. In addition to his parents Frank was predeceased by his siblings, Clifford, Harry, Vinney, Raymond, Kenny, Harriet, Kate, Barb, Shirley, and his son in law Greg O'Connell. Calling Hours will be held at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home on Wednesday October 4th, from 11am to 1pm, with a service to start at 1pm. Burial will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery in Homer.
