Obituary of Gary Barrett

Gary Barrett, 70, of McLean NY, passed away October 21, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse. He was born January 12, 1947 in Cortland the son of the late James and Pearl Sherman Barrett. Gary graduated from Dryden High School in 1965 then enlisted with the U.S. Airforce and was honorably discharged in 1971. He had been employed with Smith Corona Corp. for over thirty years until their closing then was employed with SUNY Cortland for ten years retiring in 2009. Gary was an avid fisherman and enjoyed target shooting. He was a past member of the McLean Volunteer Fire Dept., and currently a member of the NRA, and various fishing organizations. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Yvonne "Bonnie" Barrett of McLean, his son Mark (Joy) Barrett of Homer, granddaughter Elena Barrett, daughter in law Julie Barrett of Fla., his sister Phyllis (James) Hilliard of Groton, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his son, Matthew Barrett. The Wright-Beard Funeral Home of Cortland is serving the family. Contributions may be made to the Dryden American Legion or American Heart Association.
