Gerald Mahar, 76, of Cortland, N.Y. died on October 29, 2017 in Cortland, N.Y. surrounded by his family after a tough battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Francesca "Cesca" Mahar, and by sons Scott Mahar (Latasha) Alameda, CA. and Jerrod Mahar Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by his sister JoAnn (Mike) McGuire, several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many close friends. Born and raised in Cortland, "Jerry" is the son of Leo and Madeline (Natoli) Mahar who predeceased him as did his brother Leo and his wife Myrtle. Jerry served in the military with the US Army for 2 ½ years in France and Germany. After his military service he attended New Mexico State University. When he returned to Cortland he worked briefly as a paid firefighter and then at Greek Peak for 12 years. He joined Heineken USA in 1982 where he worked as a District Manager until his retirement in 2007. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, family gatherings, and spending time with his many friends. Calling hours will be held on November 2, 2017 from 3 to 6pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc. Friends are welcome to join us after at the Cortland Elks Lodge, 9 Groton Avenue.
