Obituary of Mary K. Dolgin
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Kathleen (nee Whalen) Dolgin died on Nov. 3, 2017 in Cortland, NY. She was born on Dec. 17, 1948 in Cincinnati, OH, and was the daughter of Leroy W. Whalen and Mary T. (nee Hatton) Whalen. Mary's lifelong ambition was to become a nurse, and she achieved that in Guelph, Ontario (Canada) where she was living with her husband, Steven Barry Dolgin. Mary's area of nursing expertise was critical care, and she worked in emergency rooms and ICUs in the Washington, DC area, Syracuse, Ithaca, and Binghamton. Most recently—and for the longest period of her career—she was a nurse at Cortland Regional Medical Center, where she not only provided patients with excellent care but mentored an entire generation of upcoming nurses. While Mary was also a gardener she took special pride in her nieces and nephews and their activities and achievements.
Mary is survived by her sisters: Eileen Whalen and Maureen Whalen; her brothers: Timothy (Kathleen) Whalen, Michael (Catherine) Whalen, and Patrick Whalen; and her nieces and nephews: Jesse (Erin) Margolius, Julia (Ceasar) Ahumada, Siobhan (Thomas) Lowell, Verity (Hendrik) Whalen, Marcus Whalen, Alan Low, Jeremy Low, Liam Geiger, and Emma Geiger.
Mary was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Steve (Stevie), who was her soulmate and beside whom she will now rest.
