Obituary of Peter E. Testa

Peter E. Testa, 77, passed away December 5, 2017. He was born in Cortland, New York on January 11, 1940, the son of the late Ernest and Elvira Testa.
Peter was a lifelong resident of Cortland and a graduate of Cortland High School, Class of 1958. He was a varsity athlete, earning letters in football, track, and wrestling.
Peter graduated from Colgate University, Class of 1962, and was a brother of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He was a member of the Colgate football team and has been active in the Maroon Council for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 yrs. Virginia "Ginny" Testa, a daughter and son in law Kristin and Robert LaFleur and two granddaughters, Abigail and Nora LaFleur of Winter Park Fl, a brother and sister in law Theodore and Judith Testa, a sister and brother in law Angela and James Symula of Troy Michigan, a sister Ersilia Basile of Cortland, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Peter was the founder, board member, and manager of the Elm Tree Golf Course for twenty two years and the principal broker of Testa/Calco Real Estate.
Peter served as an Alderman on the Cortland Common Council. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of the former Cortland County Development Board, Capital District Off Track Betting Corporation, and served several terms as President of Catholic Charities.
Memberships included the Cortland Elks Club, Lodge #748, the University Club of Cortland, Cortland County Board of Realtors and the Grass Roots Garden Club.
Calling hours will be Friday 4-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10 am at St. Mary's Church, Cortland NY. Burial will be private.
