Obituary of Frank M. Wasley Jr.
Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frank M. Wasley Jr., age 82 of Homer, New York, very peacefully passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 surrounded by family. He was born on November 4,1935 in Carbondale PA, son of the late Frank and Sarah “Sally” Wasley Sr.
Frank was a lifelong resident of Homer, NY. After graduation, he served in the US Air Force as a Sergeant in the 445th fighter interceptor squadron. After his honorable discharge from the US Air Force, he began his career as a New York State Trooper, where he worked for a little over 23 years. He then briefly was hired as a Cortland County Safety Officer. After retiring, he and his wife opened a successful business named “Sherry’s” where he went on to make many more friends and memories.
Frank, also known as “Papa”, was a loyal, caring, compassionate, and hard working man. He put others before himself, and always made sure no one lacked for anything. Although he hasn’t been able to get up and around very much the past few years, that didn’t change his character and sense of humor. His big smile would light up a room. Whether it be relaxing on his deck by the pool, giving someone a ride home, or kicking someone’s butt in cards, he was always a joy to be around. He may have come across as gruff and stearn in his younger years, but he was a big teddy bear with a huge heart. Frank enjoyed running, trips to Mexico every year with his wife and friends, his all time favorite crime and cop shows, and spending time with family. All of these memories we are able to look back on and smile, knowing he really was able to live his life to the fullest.
He is survived by his children Kelly Aylesworth (Brian Fuller), Kimberly Neal (Michael MacPherson), Kathy Encinas, Randy (Sherrie) Wasley, Bryan (Christina) Wasley, James Wasley, David Wasley, grandchildren Jessica (Jake & Bailey Sue) Burhans, Jordan (Jesse Lee & Kennedy) Smith, Tony Neal, Nicole Githens, Stephanie Wasley, Heather Wasley, Schuyler Wasley, Hanna Wasley, Willow Wasley, & Jade Wasley, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the special caregivers who helped take care of him over the past few years.
In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his loving wife Sheralyn “Sherry” Wasley, who we know he couldn’t wait to see again, his brother Jack Wasley, and his grandson Nathan Wasley.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 28th at the Wright Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Calling hours will be from 11am-1pm with a funeral service to begin at 1pm. Spring burial to be determined at Glenwood Cemetery in Homer.
A celebration of life will be held at “Sherry’s” bar, now known as Foxy’s, immediately following the funeral.
Please bring a memory to share about Papa either to the funeral or the celebration of life. We love hearing how he touched other people’s hearts, as much as he touched ours. He will surely be missed, and life won’t be the same without him.
