I was saddened to see this while looking through the website...but also liked seeing her face once more.
I was a terrible student...one of those each teacher knew was more than able to do the work but just never seemed to be able to for any duration.
It is now known far and wide as ADHD.
It wasn't back in my day.
Mrs. Niece was so very nice to me even though I would suspect she thought I just didn't care.
I did.
I remember my 4th grade for several reasons....she is my best one.
Interestingly enough I have thought about her many times over the years...I never really could understand why until today when I saw what she is quoted to have said about wanting to get to God and simply thank him.
Peace be with you
Penny

I am sorry to hear of Mrs.Niese's passing. Although I did not have her a teacher at Homer, I knew her and the family from The Congregational church in Homer. Her son Gary and I were the same age and good friends. She was a family friend, teacher and always spoke to me when I saw her. To Gary and the rest of the family, my heartfelt condolences.

Our deepest sympathies. Many of us worked with Polly over the years, and so many knew her from the Brewster House. She will be missed.

Gary and Cheryl, Bob and Wynie, How sorry we are to learn of Polly's passing. What a coincidence she was in our thoughts these last few weeks. What a special lady and dedicated teacher. Her smile will be missed by all. With deepest sympathy, Gary and Cathy Lawrence

I didn’t know Polly, but what a beautiful obituary and a beautiful life. Her life is quite envious.

Mrs. Niese was my teacher in fourth grade and I have fond memories of her classroom. It was the first year Homer Intermediate was open we all had to bring our lunches because the cafeteria wasn't completed.
Mrs. Niese taught me how to write in cursive. Being left handed, I had trouble writing and she showed me the tricks how to keep my hand flat. She had so much patience.
I'm thankful to had her in my life and I will never forget her.
Thank You Mrs. Niece. Rest in Peace.

There were not many teachers like her, she found room in her heart for each and every child in the school whether they were her student or not and she remembered all of us. I hadn't seen her in over 30 years and when I first ran into her while she was volunteering at the hospital she knew me right away.
wonderful lady, wonderful teacher, wonderful roll model of what we all should grow up to be. Kind, generous and giving.

One of my favorite teachers from Homer. She was an inspiration, a motivator, and truly a wonderful teacher. Rest in peace.
