Sylvia Jean Hammond, 72, of Cortland passed away February 14, 2018 at the Cortland Park and Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 29, 1945 in Cortland.

Sylvia was a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Cortland High School. Most recently she was employed at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed playing Bingo, was an avid Elvis Presley fan, and was a member of the Cortland City Fire Dept. Auxiliary.

 

She is survived by her companion Meredith "Buck" Buckley, her daughters Tammy (Brian) Weegan, Amy (Matt) Strauf, her sons John Hammond, Daniel (Tamara) Hammond, and Brian Hammond, her sisters Patricia Shaver, Shirley Casey, Cindy (Carl) Kimbrough, Kimberly (Rubin) Everidge, Yvonne (Buddy) Hitchcock, Susan (Dan) Haynes, her brothers Dana Sherman,  Neil Sherman, Harold Sherman, and Howard Sherman, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Howard J. Sherman Jr.  and Charlotte Horton Treacy, her step father Francis Treacy, step mother Phylis Stone Sherman, brother Timothy Sherman, sister Beverly Smith, and her daughter in law Wendi Hammond.

Calling hours will be held Saturday 10 am-12 pm with a funeral service to begin 12 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland NY, 13045. Spring burial will be at the Atwater Cemetery, Homer NY.
