Obituary of Mary A. Miller

Mary "Sue" Miller, 82, of Cortland passed away March 1, 2018 at the Cortland Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. She was born June 28, 1935 in Syracuse NY the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Ryan Conway. Mary spent her early childhood in Syracuse before relocating with family to Cortland where she graduated from St. Mary's High School. She married her late husband Francis "Jim" Miller in 1953. Mary remained at home to raise and care for her family. In the late 1960's she began working outside of the home at Smith Corona, followed by ETL, then with Hage Tailor Shop. After retiring from Hage's, she continued providing clothing alterations privately. Mary lived for a time in Albuquerque NM to be closer to family then returned to Cortland in 1994. She was a long time communicant of St. Mary's Church, had memberships with RSVP and 20th Century Club, and was an active volunteer at the Cortland Hospital. Her family will cherish her memory as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who gave selflessly. She is survived by her daughters Susan (Lee) ten Haken, Karen (James) Chapman, Linda (Thomas) Crompton, Pamela Miller, her sons James (Sheldane) Miller, Robert (Janet) Miller, Richard (Diana) Miller, Edward (Susan) Miller, her grandchildren Miranda, Larissa, Serena, Deric, Renee, Kevin, Travis, Brian, Kristie, Brett, Daniel, Haley, Theodore "TJ", Andrea, Leanne and Kimberleigh, 15 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased by her husband Francis "Jim" Miller, her brother Patrick Conway and her sister Elizabeth Goodrich. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4-7 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Cortland NY. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
