Obituary of Robert E. Nichols

Robert E. "Bob" Nichols, 90, of Homer passed away April 2, 2018 at Veteran's Hospital, Syracuse NY. He was born March 30, 1928 in Watertown NY, the son of the late Clarence and Addie Jones Nichols. Bob was raised and educated in Cortland graduating from Cortland High School, where he played football and excelled on the basketball court, in addition to the classroom. He graduated from SUNY Cortland and also attended Cornell University studying both as an undergraduate and later in the Law School. He participated with the Navy through ROTC, the Air Force, and the Army, receiving honorable discharges from all three branches. While in the Army he was selected to join Army Intelligence to Washington, DC. He was an avid private pilot, and enjoyed activities surrounding his Scottish heritage. He is survived by his wife Jane Morgan Nichols of Homer, his daughter Heather Nichols of Ithaca, his brother Douglas (Jackie) Nichols of Watertown NY, his sister Nancy (Gordon) Nash of Virginia, and five nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday 4-6 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. Services and burial will be private. Contributions may be made to charity of one's choice.
