Nicholas (Joe) Barbarito Jr. 72, of Truxton, NY died June 14, 2018 after recently being diagnosed with cancer. Joe was born in Astoria and raised in Long Island, New York. Joe graduated Newfield High School in Selden, NY and then attended and graduated Culinary School in Poughkeepsie. He moved to Massachusetts for a few years and worked at General Motors before moving to Truxton, NY. Joe owned and ran the 'LongBranch Bar' in Truxton for many years before opening 'Joe's Auto Body Shop' in Cortland. He was an avid auto racing driver and fan, Car #50. Joe enjoyed living here and having two of his children, Nicholas III and Anne, nearby along with his two grandson's Nicholas IV and James and his great granddaughter Sophia. His other children live out of state, one daughter, Michele in Massachusetts with her children, Andrew, Andrea and Julia and great grandson Nathanial. His son, Joseph lives in Texas with his son Thomas whom he recently met and spent some quality time with. He is survived by companion, Elizabeth Teed, sons Nicholas III, Joseph, daughters Michele and Anne, stepsons Donald and Ronald Margeson and sister, Kathleen (Cookie) Navetta, besides son-in-law Anthony, daughter-in-laws Liezyl and Krystal, nephews Peter, Philip and Daniel, brother-in-law Pete and other extended family. Joe is predeacesed by his father, Nicholas J. Barbarito Sr, (2003) and his mother, Louise M. Barbarito (2005). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday at St. Patrick's Church in Truxton, followed by a burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call 12-2PM and 5-7 PM Monday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland.
