Obituary of Charles W. Havington

 Charles W. “Charlie” Havington, 84, of Homer passed away August 7, 2018 at home with family by his side. He was born April 17, 1934 in Cortland the son of the late William and Marion Rogers Havington.

 

Charlie was a lifelong resident of the area. He began working on the family farm in Groton at the age of eighteen after his father died, and stayed operating the farm until the mid 1960’s. He then took employment at Cris Craft Corp., then Coca Cola, and finished his working career as owner operator at Dom’s Grill retiring in the late 1980’s. His memberships included being a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church, the Cortland Elk’s Lodge, social member at the Cortland VFW, and Teamster’s Union. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family and as an avid craftsman and woodworker was able to make them numerous pieces of furniture over the years. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting.

 

He is survived by his wife of 65 of yrs. Gloria Havington, his daughter Joan (Mike) Call, his son Brad (Franny) Havington, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son William Havington February 1, 2015.

 

Calling hours will be Friday 11 am - 12:45 pm at St. Margaret’s Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated 1 pm at St. Margaret’s Church, Homer. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Wright-Beard Funeral Home is serving the family.
