Obituary of Mark Church

Mark Church, 58, of Groton NY, passed away October 13, 2018 at home. He was born May 4, 1960 in Ithaca NY. Mark was raised and lived in Fabius until 1977, then moved to Cortland with his family and graduated from Cortland High School in 1978. While in high school he enjoyed wrestling. Soon after high school Mark enlisted with the U.S. Army, served three years active duty and was honorably discharged. Mark's working career began with Cormac Roofing, which later became Cortaca Roofing which he co-owned, then took employment with Paul Yaman Construction, and he was currently employed with the Groton School District. In his spare time he enjoyed football and golf. His greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of thirty one years Kathy Church, his sons Mathew Wood, Noah Evans, Brian Church, his mother Dawn Patricia Philo Church, his sisters Kathleen, (Jody) Church Case, Cindy Church Williams, Amy Church, his brothers Ricky Church and George Church, eleven grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mark was predeceased by his father George Church, his sister Lori Church Marshall, and his niece Melissa Marshall. Calling hours will be Thursday 4-6 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY. Funeral services will be Friday 10 am at Wright-Beard Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Cortland rural Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Groton School District.
