Obituary of Nancy A. Etchison

Nancy Alice Etchison, 80, of Muncie, IN, passed away on October 10th in Ithaca, NY. Mrs. Etchison was the daughter of William H. Hart and Naoma Hart. She graduated from Muncie Central in 1956. While attending Muncie Central she served as treasurer of the Honor Society, editor of the Magician yearbook, and received the Storer Scholarship. She earned a degree from Ball State College in education and worked for Dean Richard W. Burkhardt while attending school. Post graduation, she taught homebound students for 3 years. She served on the Board of Directors at Muncie Civic Theatre, assistant directed multiple shows and performed many backstage supporting roles. She was also a member of the Board of Directors at the YWCA in the 1970s, sang in the Interludes, Muncie Community Singers, and Masterworks Chorale. Nancy was always decades ahead of time with her interests in yoga, health food, meditation, alternative medicine, and spiritual enlightenment. She immensely enjoyed celebrating life and practicing gratitude. Nancy knew what the important things in life were: family, friends, joy, gratitude and togetherness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Jan L. Etchison. Survivors include her sister, Sandra S. Gerken of Fort Wayne, IN, and her three sons, Jan L. (Chip) Etchison II (Lisa), Todd W. Etchison (Lisa), and Dirk H. Etchison (Ulrike) grandchildren: Maxine Etchison, Skylar Etchison, Lucy Etchison, Daniel Etchison, Henry Etchison and Liam Etchison. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Muncie Civic Theatre so it can continue to touch as many lives as Nancy did; or perhaps simply perform a random act of kindness expecting nothing in return. Nancy would love that! A celebration of her life will be held at Muncie Civic Theatre on December 28th 2018 from 3 to 7pm.
