Obituary of Jan Etchison

Jan L. Etchison, 82, of Muncie, IN, passed away on October 5thin Ithaca, NY. A Muncie resident, Mr. Etchison was the son of Edward Leon Etchison and Martha Elizabeth (Townsley) Etchison. He graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1954, followed by serving 2 years in the United States Navy. After working several years at Twoson Tool his father's company, he started his own companies: Crain's English Pig & Whistle, The Hearthstone, Sonitrol of Muncie, Delaware Telephone Answering Service, Sonitrol of San Diego, and Alternate Telephone Systems. He served on the Board of Directors at Muncie Civic Theatre and was part of the group that moved the Muncie Civic Theatre into the Star Theatre (its current home). Additionally he helped facilitate the purchase and creation of the Alno Club to help expand addiction recovery in Muncie. Jan performed in community theatre at Muncie Civic Theatre and Ball State University theatre, as well as surrounding communities for over 6 decades. Survivors include his cousin Richard J. Etchison of Longwood, FL, his sisters Jeanine Souders, Julie Jones, and brother Michael Etchison. Three sons, Jan L. (Chip) Etchison II (Lisa), Todd W. Etchison (Lisa), Dirk H. Etchison (Ulrike) of Muncie, IN, Ithaca, NY, and Van Nuys, CA.; grandchildren: Maxine Etchison, Skylar Etchison, Lucy Etchison, Daniel Etchison, Henry Etchison, and Liam Etchison. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Muncie Civic Theatre so it can continue to touch as many lives as Jan did. A celebration of his life will be held at Muncie Civic Theatre on December 28th, 2018 from 3 to 7 pm.
