Douglas J. Lawrence Sr., 70 of Cortland, formerly of Port Charlotte Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on December 8, 2018. Douglas was born on October 16, 1948 in Cortland, NY, the son of the late Robert Lawrence, and Fern French Lawrence. He was a lifelong fireman, and retired from the Cortland City Fire Department. Douglas was also an EMT and a former Cortland County Coroner. He is survived by his children, Tricia (Chris) Ludden of Liverpool, Douglas Jere (Lua) Lawrence of Syracuse, Michelle (Ben) Swenson of Utah, Sarah (Brian) Horner of Cortland, his ex-wife and friend Yvonne Burnette, eight grandchildren and 2 nephews. In addition to his parents, Douglas is predeceased by his sister Judith and brother-in-law Arlyn Moore. Doug enjoyed spending time laughing with his family and his "Coffee Club". Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 10 to 12pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., with a memorial service to begin immediately at noon.
