Kenneth DeRushia, 79, of Cortland, passed away December 21, 2018 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1939 in Raymondville NY. Ken came to Cortland in 1959 and began working at Smith Corona until retiring in 1989. His memberships included the Cortland VFW, Cortland Eagles, lifetime member of the DAV, and lifetime member of the sons of the American Legion serving as President for 18 years. Ken enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and tinkering, anything to keep himself busy. He is survived by his wife of 56 yrs. Phyllis DeRushia, his daughter Jacque (Jim) Buddenhagen, his grandson Travis Buddenhagen, Stephen (Ashli) Buddenhagen, great grandson Jackson Buddenhagen, his sisters Jean Whalen, Pat (Tom) Sibley, his brother Robert McVey, longtime family friend Lyle Buddenhagen, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ken was predeceased by his parents John and Blanche Shampine DeRushia, his siblings Donald and Jesse DeRushia, Jacque Reasor, Bernice Sharlow, and Vivian Stanke. Calling hours will be Thursday 2-4:45pm a service to follow 5 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, with Chaplain Thomas Margrave presiding. Spring burial will be held at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Blodgett mills NY. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a veteran's organization of one's choice.
