Obituary of Eleanor S. James

Eleanor S. James, 91, previously of Summit St., Cortland, went to be with the Lord January 1, 2019 after residing at Cortland Park for the past two years. Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Cortland. She had been employed with Brewer-Titchenor Corp., was a House Mother for SUNY Cortland students, and then was a short order cook at Rt. 281 Bowl for a short time. She was a longtime member of the Grace and Holy Spirit Church (formerly Grace Episcopal Church) where she served on the Altar Guild and was a longtime volunteer at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. Her family will cherish her memory as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her four daughters Katherine Harris of Purcellville Virginia, Theresa James of Syracuse NY, Nancy (Eric) Edlund of Scott NY, Mary Piraino of Syracuse NY, her grandchildren Megan (Andrew) Boone of Bend Oregon, Ashley (Stuart) Edlund-Chescheir of Geneva NY, and Matteo Piraino of Syracuse NY, great grandchildren Quinn and Cole Boone. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents Charles and Ella Somers, her husband Arthur James, and her brother Harold Somers. A memorial service will be held Saturday 11 am at the Grace and Holy Spirit Church, 13 Court St., Cortland NY, 13045 with Fr. Peter Williams officiating. Spring burial will be at the Willet Cemetery.
