Obituary of Dorothy Henry

Dorothy June Snell Henry, 90, of CRMC, Cedar Run, Cortland, NY, passed away on January 24, 2019. She was born on Jan. 10, 1929, the daughter of Herman and Jessie Shaver Snell of Blodgett Mills.
Dorothy attended Blodgett Mills and Cortland schools. Due to an illness, Dorothy's parents relocated to a "Dude Ranch" in Arizona for a period of time during her teenage years. After returning back to their Blodgett Mills home, Dorothy met and married the love of her life, Gerald Joseph Henry on Sept. 8, 1946.
Dorothy was known to many as the "Avon Lady", selling Avon for 40+ years in the Blodgett Mills area. She also opened a little store in the Blodgett Mills Grange, selling slightly used clothing and other items. She and Jerry were life members of the Blodgett Mills Rod and Gun Club, working and running many of the dances and activities there prior to 1980.
In 1980, her husband's job moved them to Ocala, Florida. In 1984, the love of Dorothy's life passed away while they were in Florida, and Dorothy returned to Blodgett Mills to be with her family.
Dorothy's survivors include her son: Gary (Mary) Henry; and her daughter: Valerie (Joseph DeMann) Keib of Blodgett Mills; her grandchildren: Timothy (Stacey) Henry of Blodgett Mills, Tonya (David) Teeter Jr. of Virgil, Garrick (Michelle Cheff) Henry of Virgil, Amy Walley of Cortland, Gerald M. (Wendy Cowen) Henry of McGraw, and Jason (Jennifer) Henry of Winchester, Va; great-grandchildren: Austin (Hayley) Hammond, Brittney (Dustin) Thompson, Mason (Sabrina Crosby) Kneedler, Jesse & Kristi Walley, Elijah & Gabriel Teeter, Joshua & Sydney, Seth & Danielle, Jacob, Madilynn & Jacquelynn Henry; and great-great grandchildren: Jase & Emma Thompson; a sister-in-law, Irene Nemecek; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her extended family, Patricia & Matthew (Heidi) Thompson, Jessica (Rich) Maricle and Chase & Jenna Curtis.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Gerald J. Henry in 1984; her brother Stanley Ray Shaver; and her sisters, Irene Pallace and Betty Davis.
Services will be on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY 13045. Calling hours will be from 12pm to 2pm with the service immediately following at 2pm. Interment will be in the Spring at Blodgett Mills Cemetery.
