Obituary of Permelia K. Wood

Permelia (Penny) K. Wood 64 of Cortland NY went to be with the lord on February 19, 2019 surrounded by her family and friends at Crouse Hospital.

Penny worked as a waitress for over thirty years in various restaurants including, Bill's Diner, Coachlite Inn, and Denny's. She loved spending time with her family and friends whether it was playing cards or just socializing never leaving behind her beloved dog Rocky. Penny's love for Rocky was very deep and unconditional. She was very outgoing never missed an opportunity to just get out and do just about anything but her heart and soul was in dancing at a few different places growing up but the country music park was her favorite.

Penny is survived by her sons, Jeremy (Jolene) Layton of Marathon, Jared Layton of Cortland, and daughter Amy Layton of Homer, as well as her eight grandchildren, Vincient, Abygail, Faith, Ashlynn, Zachary, Gordon, Brandon and Dylan.

Penny is predeceased by her son, Darwin Niles, Jr., father Ernest Shapley, mother Elizabeth Wood, brothers, Bruce Roasa and Charles Shapley.

Penny will be missed by many including her brothers Francis (Janet) Shapley of Norwich, William Roosa companion Melissa Riffanburg of Sherburne and sisters Carolyn (Larry) Clark of Sherburne and Betty (Charles) Curry Jr. of Sherburne.  Along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours or funeral. A graveside burial is planned for in the spring in Earlville, NY.
