Sam changed my life. It started when he was my professor and continued into my young professional life as my sponsor into Rotary. We spent years together playing in his Jazz quintet and that was a musical thrill of a lifetime. He was my encourager, mentor and role model. He literally changed who I am today... and for the better! Even after my family and I moved away, I would try to call him on Memorial Day or Veterans Day. Our conversations were never without him sharing the latest joke he learned.
So today (5/29/2023), I find myself once again missing our talks. So instead, I purchased a brick, with his name, to go into the Veterans Memorial near my new home in Sunset Beach, NC. Dear Sam, the best gift I can give you and the best way I can thank you, is to always remember you.
-Forever your friend, John

Dear Forcucci family, I was deeply saddened to read of Dr. Forcucci's passing. He left an indelible impression on every Cortland student with whom he interacted. The joy and effervescence he always exuded lifted the spirits of everyone around him. I never saw him without a smile and positive comment for every person who came his way. Dr. F has left a legacy of love, excellence, and positivity. God bless you all!

I was in 8th grade and one of my classmates asked this young, smiling and engaging music teacher if he was Irish. He said "Yes, Mediterranean Irish". That was my first memory of this wonderful man. I was a tenor in the Junior High barbershop quartet he started and directed. When I (finally!) crossed the stage at SUNY Cortland to receive my college diploma at age 28, Sam was sitting with other faculty. As I passed by he said "atta boy Jerry, we knew you could do it!". After I moved to Iowa I heard that the people of Cortland had the good sense to elect him Mayor.
What a life of sweetness, service and light!. R.I.P.

Sam and Anna were dear friends of my parents, Bob and Ruth O'Connell. My favorite memory of their friendship, was my father's joke which was always said in good humor..."Sam says and Anna does." They were both beautiful and kind people. Our family is so sorry for your loss.

Sending along a heartfelt message of sympathy to Sam's family and close friends. Though I was not a close personal friend of Sam's, I respected Sam for his musical talent and knowledge. We were fortunate to have him in town for many reasons. I was thankful for the music (and music knowledge) he shared with Cortland, and also for his service to his country. May he rest in peace. I know that we (in the Old Timers Band) will definitely miss hearing him yell "BRAVO!" at the end of our marches, but we know he will always be a part of the band in spirit. My deepest condolences to the family.
