David M. Heller, Sr. "Bear", 80 of Blodgett Mills, N.Y. passed away on August 3, 2019 at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. David was born July 24, 1939 in Cortland, a son of the late Harvey & Mable Harmon Heller. David was a life long resident of the area and attended McGraw High School before serving in the United States Navy. David was employed with and retired from Orchard Earth & Pipe after 36 years. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, hunting, dirt track racing, volunteering at the McGraw Senior Center and having his chicken BBQ each May with his family. David is survived by his wife Phyllis of 38 years, son David Heller, Jr., stepdaughters Vicky Dimorier (Fred McCarthy) of Homer, N.Y., Melissa (Art) Stevens of Preble, N.Y., sister Jean (Michael) Wells of Blodgett Mills, N.Y. many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Harvey Jr., Virginia, Sam, Margaret, Helen, Beatrice, Martha and John. Family will be present to receive friends 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Saturday August 10, 2019 at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland, N.Y. with a funeral service to start at 12:00PM. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, N.Y. David kept a positive attitude even after being paralyzed from surgery and was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife for the last 5 years.
