Obituary of Helen B. Hammond

Helen B. Hammond of Cortland, N.Y. died on August 19, 2019. She was born in New Britain, Conn. on May 30, 1921, the daughter of Mary (Bondar) and Cornell Britt, but had been a resident of Cortland for most of her life. Helen Bruce Britt and James Arthur Hammond Jr., were married by the Rev. Ralph E. Hovencamp in the Grace Episcopal Church on May 18, 1946. She was a member of the said church and was a Cortland High School graduate in 1939, and also the Cortland Business Institute. She had been employed by Kelly and Maher, Attorneys, Drs. R. Paul Higgins Jr., and Edward F. Higgins, and Dr. Edward P. Cummins prior to her retirement. Helen is survived by her loving daughter Susan L. Hammond, her grandsons James A. and Patrick H. McRae, all of Colorado Springs, CO. As well as her niece Barbara (William) Sperry of Unadilla, N.Y., nephew Peter Britt of Schenectady, N.Y. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James in May 2000, a sister Rose, brothers Alexander and Fred, and nieces Nancy Scudamore and Judith (William) Blum.
