Obituary of Richard McDermott

Richard McDermott, 68, of Cortland, N.Y., passed away October 23, 2019. Richard was born on May 16, 1951, to the late Frederick and Myra Gates McDermott. Richard loved being around his family. He especially loved the holidays and buying gifts for his loved ones, when he could. In his free time he enjoyed building planes, going for walks, watching old westerns, reading the newspaper, and keeping up on current events and national politics. Richard was a very sociable and personable man. He loved anything related to the military. Richard is survived by his sister Jane Sherman, his brother Charles McDermott, his nieces Wendy (Larry) Carr, Melissa (Del) Smith, and Amy Griffin, his nephews, Keith (Tiffany) Sherman, Joseph (Cassandra) McDermott and Chad Griffin, his many great nieces and nephews, and three great nephews. Richard was predeceased by his sisters Margaret (McDermott) Marcey and Susan (McDermott) Griffin, and his brothers-in-law John Marcey and Ray Sherman.
