I shall always remember Mrs. Higgins fondly as the mother of some of my summer lake crew. She was a wonderful women and a proper lady that made us all mind our manners. I remember trying to keep our crazy dog Ole from disrupting her summer peace and keep him out of her beautiful flower boxes. As all the summer crew grew up and dispersed over the years, she continually kept current on my expanding family. I knew she had a genuine interest in all of us and she will always be a fond piece of my childhood memories. Hugs to all the family and I hope to stay in touch - Barb Thompson Chenoweth

I am so sorry to see this sad news. Elima was truly one of a kind. She was a beautiful person and was so interesting to talk with and listen to. I had the pleasure of meeting her when I joined the Cortland Memorial Foundation board many years ago and we met at the first Higgins Society Reception I attended. I always looked forward to her being at these events. God rest her soul. My prayers and sympathy are with her family.

My mother, Helen Hammond, worked for Dr. Paul and Dr. Ed right up until they closed the office. She continued a relationship with Elima as the years passed and whenever I came to Cortland for a visit we would drive out to see Elima. Helen passed away earlier this year. She thought the world of your entire family and shared so many wonderful stories. I know you will miss her terribly and my thoughts are with you.

I had the honor of knowing Elima and Dr. Paul when I returned to Cortland in 1995. Many years ago, our grandparents George "Poppy" and Elizabeth "Nanny" Court looked after the Higgins children and even Dr. Paul's father. Elima shared that Nanny Court helped her learn to cook and subsequently presented me with Nanny's handwritten recipes. With each of my visits with Elima she shared glimpses of an era long ago and the friendship she and Dr. Paul shared with our grandparents - a treasured gift. Elima's grace and elegance was omnipresent, punctuated by her liveliness and sense of humor. With deepest sympathies to the Higgins family. Lisa Court

"Aunt Elima" holds a special place in my heart as does "Uncle Paul" and will be missed as well a remembered, with gratitude. Growing up, especially in those influential teen years, Aunt Elima was always welcoming and open to me; be it at the camp on the Lake or at the house "in town." Engaging, strong, and a solid parent (especially when Susie was around) she maintained a respectful sharpness and class throughout her years. There were many wonderful conversations. Her smile, as well as Uncle Paul's, wonderfully remains.

Sincere condolences to the entire Higgins family on the passing of Elima. She and Paul were dear friends for all the years that Sue and I lived in Cortland and Homer.
We last saw Elima at the Glen Haven a few summers ago and had a pleasant visit. She was as vivacious, interesting and lively as ever.
The sad news yesterday brought back a flood of pleasant memories.
May she Rest In Peace.
