Obituary of Douglas J. Rankin

Douglas James (Doug) Rankin, 66yrs old, of Cortland, N.Y., passed away on February 18, 2020 at Crown park in Cortland, NY. Doug was born in Buffalo, N.Y. to Verl and Charlotte Rankin on October 1, 1953. He attended high school at Groton High School and graduated in 1971. He worked as a mechanic for Advanced Auto Parts for 12 years, he was also a mechanic on the side for 30 years for anyone who needed it. Some of his hobbies included riding his motorcycle alone or with friends, he loved to play pool 3 or 4 times a week and teaching/helping others to play better. He had a love of old cars and he loved to watch NASCAR and root for his football team The Steelers. Doug is survived by his sister, Debra (Rankin) Lucas married to Steve Lucas or Groton, Brother, Dale Rankin or Groton, son, Douglas and Carrie Rankin, son Denton Rankin, son, Dustin and Brandi Rankin, daughter, Darci Rankin, along with several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother and father Verl and Charlotte (Jackson) Rankin. We will be holding a celebration of life for him on March 28th at Argyle's Easy Street in Cortland N.Y., time to be determined. Doug was a loving father and an amazing friend to all that for to know him. He is sorely missed but is riding high in heaven smiling down on us!
