To the family of Stub. I have known Stub for many many years. I first met him while deer hunting in Phrasalia state forest.I was with my father who served with Stub in the fire department. After a few hours hunting we, and the rest of the group, all fire fighters, moved to a differnt hunting area. I had never been there before it was "Mahogany Ridge". As I was only 16 I was not allowed to hunt, but I became the 1st designated driver in the state. From then on I was invited on many hunts and fishing trips. Stub and the rest always treated me with respect, It was like I had 12 dads instead of one. I later joined the department and was mentored for many years by Stub,as a trainee and a firefighter. He was instrumental in providing me with up to date, first hand knowlege about fire fighting and leadership. With the help of his example I was later promoted up the ranks. Even after retirement, his and mine, it was always great to see Stub and talk over old times. We would always rehash old fires, training sessions and hunting adventures. It was my HONOR and PLEASURE to have served with him in duty and friendship. He will be dearly missed. Mike Petrella.

Stub was my mentor in the Cortland Fire Department and with Hitchcock Hose Co #6. In addition, he was a friend and colleague in life. I mourn his passing and will forever miss his presence. RIP
Here's a photo I took of Stub in May 2019 when we were together at Courthouse Park.

Stub was a very good friend. As a captain for CFD, I sometimes go to the station as a volunteer firefighter and visit him and the other men. If a call came in, I would go with the engine that Stub was on. His mother retired to Zephyrhills FL, and when he car to visit her; he would call me because I was living there also. I always like Stub, showing for Memorial Day service wearing his Navy uniform. I will miss Stub and May he Rest In Peace.

To Marietta and all my cousins - sincere condolences. Many fond memories of visiting Uncle Stub and family as we grew up over the years. And then more as we got to visit and reconnect a few times over the more recent past approximately 15+ years. Fun trips together, events for birthday’s and small family reunions, etc. The memories live on and Uncle Stub will be missed.
Love -

I remember as a kid hearing stories of Aunt Aggie and Uncle Stub taking their family camping, and I was so envious. Then one year we were invited to join them. It was such a wonderful vacation, and I was always amazed at how they happily added more children to their already extensive group! And that was true of so many visits to 3 Levydale; they always made it feel like another home for their extended family. It was so wonderful to spend time with Murray in Kentucky in 2016, and then in Cortland in 2018. I will miss you Uncle Stub.

Hey, Stub, you were a great uncle to us Johnson kids growing up in the 50s and 60s. And then in the 90s and the new millenium we got close again as you and Mom were able to visit so often, just for fun or celebrating her 80th bithday, and then yours! You lived a long and enviable life, and what more can anyone ask for? Bon voyage, sailor

I have so many good memories of summers in Cortland and our family getting together with yours to swim, picnic, go boating and more.
We had such good times with Murray ( Stub to us) and Aggie and ultimately Marietta too. John and Barb bringing Murray to Mom’s memorial in April of 2016 is an especially fond memory. We shared lots of stories and had a great time with everyone. Larry and I are sorry for your loss but are glad you had so many great years and great times together.

Dad, I will always remember how much fun we had dancing at my wedding. October 21st will never be the same. We always tried to be the first one to call and wish the other a Happy Birthday. Dan, the boys and I will always remember the camping trips we went on together. Joshua & Jason always enjoyed your stories about WWII and your days as a firefighter. You will be missed dearly.
I Love you dad. RIP

We grew up with the Aldrich family. I have so many beautiful memories of this beautiful family. Most of all Stub always looked up to this man who was a gentle giant in my eyes. Disciplinarian, mentor, dad, father and friend to all. Serving his country and Community which as a child you don't really understand what that means. Today I know what that means. His love, and devotion was endless. I will surely miss you Mr. Aldrich. Forever in my heart. Thank you for your service!

I am missing my Dad dearly as the oldest daughter and as many people have told me "the apple of his eye". He was born on Oct 21, 1926, the same day my sister Susan was born, which gave them such a close loving bond. He was also predeceased by a baby brother, Robert, on Oct 8 of 1923, ironically mine and my husband Bob's birthday, which also held a sweet spot for my Dad. I am so proud to have been able to accompany him on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC with all those wonderful veterans. They were treated like Kings,as they well should be. All the calls and tributes I have received have been overwhelming. Of all people, Dad would have loved them.
RIP Dad and give a big hug and kiss to Mom and brother James. Keep looking out for us as you always have. Kathie
