Michael Edward Call, age 73, a beloved life-time resident of Cortland, NY passed away peacefully on Monday May 5, 2020.
Survived by his wife Joan Havington, Mike was born July 24, 1946. He lived all his life in Cortland, raising his children Heidi (Mark Adams), Sherry (Daryl Timmons), Susan (Howard Recor), Staci (Darren Snyder), and Joseph (Joanna Testa) with his first wife Laura Cottom. Later in life, Mike was fortunate enough to be father to 5 more children: Thomas and Stacie Compagni, Steven (Jackie), Charles, and his granddaughter Kay McCloskey.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Joseph Call, mother Marjorie Sweeney, and brother William Call. He was survived by siblings Jack Call, Cathy Call Seager, and sister-in-law Donna Call, grandchildren Taylor, Alexis, Emily, and Josh Adams, Chad and Brett Timmons, Austin and Alex Recor, McKenna Snyder, Grace and Lilly Call, as well as Ryan, Luke and Jack McCloskey. He was also survived by his mother-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as friends he counted as brothers.
Mike was deeply connected to his community as an employee of the city as supervisor at the DPW, a member of the Cortland Elks Club Lodge #748, and a member of the VFW. Mike loved golfing at Willowbrook, Fraternal Pitch League, and being involved in charitable Elks events.
Most consequential of all his contributions is his service to his county. Mike proudly served two years as a sergeant in the Vietnam War as a member of the 101st Airborne Division-the "Screaming Eagles".
