Lewis D Benny Fairchild 86, of Homer passed away April 2, 2012 in Cortland Regional Medical Center. Benny was born April 17, 1925 in Cortland the son of the late Ralph and Augusta Lewis Fairchild. Benny had been employed at Homer Men and Boys for several years, and had been a member of the Sons of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and was a former member and past president of the Cortland LIONS Club. Benny is survived by his son Bruce (Julie) Knowlton of Homer, his granddaughter Amanda Jane Knowlton Burlington, VT. In addition to his parents Benny was predeceased by is wife Nadine in 1999. Memorial services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday at Grace Holy Spirit Church With Fr. Peter Williams presiding At Bennys request there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bennys name may be directed to the charity of ones choice. He was a great person and great pitch player Chris & Terry Darling I remember as a boy going into Frog's Homer Men and Boys clothing store on Saturdays and seeing Benny. When my father David Allen (WA2JFL) got into cb radio in '75 Benny was one of a group who introduced him to ham radio a year or two after that. Dad and Benny became great friends along with Curt Smith of Cortland (who also passed away recently). Benny lived a full life and did a lot for the Lions Club. His spirit will live on...
