Betty J. Davis, 92, of Cortland, NY went to be with her Savior, Sunday August 16, 2020. She was born on May 27, 1928, the daughter of the late Harry and Austa Joseph Kneedler. Betty graduated from Cortland High School and went on to work at the City Hall in Cortland. She was the secretary of the Youth Bureau and the Assessment Office. Betty worked as the Church Secretary at Memorial Baptist Church for 32 years. While at Memorial Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, an active choir member and served as a Deaconess. She also served as a Deaconess Emeritus at the Summerhill Baptist Church. Betty loved to sing with the trio as well as play the piano. Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald Davis, her daughters Deborah (Steven) Torkelson and Donna (Melissa) Davis-Howard, and her son Dale (Diana) Davis, her six grand-children, Stephanie (Caleb) Sharp, Andrew Torkelson, Kyle (Jessica) Davis and Matthew, Samuel and Sarah Davis-Howard. She is also survived by her sisters Wanda (Jerry) Davis, Mona Brown, and Shirley (Robert) Bruey. A private family celebration of Betty's life will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at The Church of the Redeemer - 125 Tompkins St., Cortland, NY. Dr. Bruce J. Allen will lead the service. In lieu of flowers and in-person attendance, please consider sending a personal note to Donald Davis at 26 Delaware Ave., Cortland, NY 13045. The service will be streamed virtually at https://m.facebook.com/wrightbeardfuneralhomeinc/ starting at 2pm. This way everyone can celebrate Betty's life while remaining safe and respectful of the current pandemic situation.
