Mary Lee Carsello, 80, of Cortland, NY, passed away at the Groton Community Health Care Center surrounded by her family, on August 26,, 2020. Mary was born in Cortland to the late James and Catherine Sheridan. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and went on to spend a long and rewarding career as an Administrative Assistant at Cornell University (retired), Wilson Sporting Goods, Mack Financial, and Overhead Door. She maintained long lasting friendships with many of her co-workers. Mary loved spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren, who were amongst her greatest joys. She was a fun-loving grandma, and she never missed an event. Her two favorite words were “I’ll treat.” Mary devoted her life to caring for her immediate and extended family. She hosted many large family gatherings; everyone was welcome at her table. There were many spirited Pitch games. Bob and Mary enjoyed spending time in Florida after their retirements. She also enjoyed many family vacations, and card games with her friends. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the Board of Elections. She was devout Catholic, and a communicant of St. Mary’s church. Mary was predeceased by her parents, James and Catherine, and her siblings Margaret O’Hara, Charles (Bud) Sheridan, James (Tink) Sheridan, Robert Sheridan, Gerald Sheridan, Barbara Bean, Sr. Rita Sheridan OSF, and extended family members. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert Carsello, daughters Lori (Jim) Schlenker, Christa Carsello, Beth Carsello (Tim Reilley), and Karen Carsello. Mary was cherished by her four grandchildren, Jason Schlenker (Kari), John Schlenker (Danielle), Kurtis Waibel, and Matthew Waibel, as well as her great grandchildren, Ava Grace and Jaxon Schlenker. She is also survived by her sister, Christine Sheridan, and her close nephew, James (Jan) Sheridan. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s cemetery, after a private service for immediate family members. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Groton Community Care Center, and Hospice. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospicare.
