Anthony J. "Tony" Madonna, 99, of Cortland passed away September 16, 2020 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. He was born September 10, 1921 in Syracuse.
Tony was a WWII US Army veteran serving in the European Theatre with the 656th Tank Destroyer Battalion, and was honorably discharged in 1945. Soon after returning from serving his country he married his late wife Rose and came to live in Cortland where they lived for over 75 years. Tony was employed with Atlantic States Gas Co. now known as Suburban Propane where he retired from. After retirement he worked part time at Crescent Corset Co. He was longtime communicant of St. Anthony's Church, and served as past Commander of the Cortland VFW.
He is survived by sisters in law Palma Madonna & Angie Madonna, brother in law James Weinerth, along with several nieces and nephews.
Tony was predeceased by his wife Rose Berardi Madonna, his siblings John "Chick" Madonna, Tommy Madonna, Pat, Madonna, Fanny Pollastro, Carmella Pollastro, Ruth Saya, Sally Wisniewski, and Connie Deny.
No services will be held at this time. A celebration of Tony's life will be announced in the spring.
