It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David L. Baker of Cortland on October 1, 2020. David was born on November 25, 1958 in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late Leo and Catherine (Machan) Baker. Most recently David was employed at HMR. David enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed finding treasures with his metal detector, outdoor barbecues, and shopping at flea markets. He was a talented artist, loved his music and was a huge Syracuse Orangeman fan.. David is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Kelly (Gilbert) Baker, one daughter, Nicole (Martin) Mudge, one son, David (Alicia McIntosh) Baker,Jr., and two grandchildren who were the stars in his eyes, Jaden and Skyler Mudge. David also leaves behind his brothers, Ronnie Baker and Danny Baker, and sisters Carolyn Bentley and Debbie (Mike) Lormand. His mother-in-law Anna Gilbert, sister-in-laws Nancy (Sandy) Samson, Sharon Gilbert, Judy Ingrahm, Susan (Gary) McCall, and Kathy Gilbert, as well as several nieces and nephews. David had everything that he ever wanted. He was a loving husband, a perfect father, and most importantly the best papa to his favorite people, Jaden and Skyler. David was predeceased by his mother, Catherine (Machan) Baker and father, Leo Baker. His brother Rick Bentley, father-in-law M. Calvin Gilbert, Jr., brother-in-law Mark Gilbert, and great niece Alexia (Duckie) Haynes. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Abundant Life Church, 105 Elm Street, Cortland NY, at 11 am. A private family funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon. Social distancing and masks are required following CDC regulations. Anyone who would like to make a donation in David's memory is asked to consider making a donation to Kelly Baker, 32 Grant Street, Apt. 3, Cortland NY, to assist with David's final expenses.
