Obituary of Joan Cooper

Born May 29th, 1940. Parents Frank and Dorothy Aloi. Graduated Cortland High School 1958. Married 1958-2013. Employed at Goodale Dairy and Smith Corona. In 1964 traveled with two children to Keflavik, Iceland to join husband serving U.S. Navy. Joan worked on base, joined enlisted wives club and established an intervention phone line for military dependents in crises F.I.N. friends in need.
Lived in Virginia, Maryland and Hawaii. Returned to Cortland 1973 and worked for Grand Union. Moved to Mattydale, NY and worked at Switz's, a daily communicate of St. Margaret's, member of Altar Rosary. Legion of Mary, sang in funeral choir, taught CCD, was Eucharistic minister to the sick, delivered meals on wheels, commissioned formation minister and devout apostolate of Divine mercy.
In 2000 she returned to Cortland to be close to family and attended St. Margaret's in Homer, NY. Volunteered at C.R. Hospital under Chaplin Ina Warner.
Survived by her children; Amy Cooper-Phy and Mitchell Cooper and four grand children; Nicholas, Jolene, Ricky U.S.A.F. and Daisy along with five great grand, her brother Frank Aloi and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends my call at St. Margaret's Church on Thursday from 11 to 12:45pm. We will be following NYS guidelines regarding capacity and social distancing. Masks or face coverings are required. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret's, Homer, NY, privately for the family. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
