Obituary of Robert M. Homer

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert M. Homer, "Bob" 75 of Raymond Avenue Cortland, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday Nov. 8, 2020 after a short illness. Bob was born on Nov 22, 1944 (almost 76 years) and lived his entire life in the Cortland area. Bob was proud to have served several years in the National Guard, and was very loyal to his country. After schooling, Bob joined in and worked with his father Joseph Homer in the carpet installation business for over 20 years. In his late thirties Bob decided to open up his own Retail/Wholesale carpet and flooring business on Route 13 in Cortland and ran the store up until his recent illness and subsequent death. Starting out with very little working capital, but a good reputation Bob built his store R HOMER CARPETS into a thriving operation with several thousand yards of flooring in stock and several employees. Along the way Bob made several hundred good friends and loyal customers who cherished their relationship with him. Bob is survived by his wife Ruea Bush Homer, children Kevin (Tammie) Homer, and Christina Homer, of Cortland, a sister Judy Hill of Marathon, grandchildren Aaron Homer and Gianna Homer. He is also survived by his step children Lorrie Sturdavent, Brenda Stafford, and John Stafford Jr. Bob was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children Sharon Foster Homer in 2005. Bob will be missed by many and it will be hard to find another of his mold. The family wishes to recognize the several care givers who assisted the family attending to Bob in this difficult time. They include: Heather, Ainsley, Michelle, Amber, Juan, Drew, Sheila, and Fannie. Also a special thanks to Daniel McNeil Sr. whom greatly respected and who was very supportive of Bob. In lieu of flowers one might consider a contribution to The Cortland area SPCA, or the CNY Living History Center. www.wright-beard.com
