Obituary of Carmela C. Overby

Carmela Catalano Overby, 89 of Cortland passed away December 22, 2020 at Cortland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Overby was born May 8, 1931 in Cortland the daughter of the late Francesco and Giovanina Valenzo Catalano. Mrs. Overby had been a lifelong resident of the area, she loved to cook and bake apple pies. She had been employed at Crescent Corset, Smith Corona and the Family Bargain Center. Carmela was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. In her spare time, Carmela enjoyed working in her garden. Mrs. Overby is survived by her husband of 62 years Harry Overby, two sisters; Mary Catalano and Catherine Fredenburg, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Overby was predeceased by her brothers, James, Dominick and Anthony "Rocky" Catalano, sisters Lena Lago and Angeline Johnsen. There will be no services held at this time, a private graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in the spring.
