Gerald L. Stoker, 88, of Cortland, NY passed away on Sunday January 10, 2021. He was born on February 22, 1932, the son of the late Clarence Stoker, deceased in 1995, and Ruby Hubbard, deceased in 1993. Gerald graduated from Homer High School in 1951. He operated a dairy farm with his father in Scott from 1951-1958. He then drove taxi prior to becoming a bus driver for the Homer Central School District for 32 years, retiring in 1994. He was a lifelong member of the Homer Baptist Church, now the Grace Christian Fellowship. He was also a 72-year member of the Homer Grange #834 and belonged to the Cortland Moose Lodge #1522 and Legion of the Moose. He was also a life member of the Tioughnioga Hose Co. #2 Homer Fire Department and was a Homer Fire Police. Gerald really enjoyed working with wood and even built many bird houses that surrounded his home. Gerald is survived by his brother Clyde (Wanita) Stoker, two nieces Cindy (Milton Tufts) Stoker, and Lynn (Jeffrey) Mitchell, his great nephews Mathew (Caitlin) Thiel, Brian Mitchell, his great niece Jessica Mitchell, and a great great nephew. He is predeceased by his daughter Velma Jean Stoker Eldridge in 1974, his wife Winifred "Winnie" Marsh Stoker in 1999, and his sister-in-law Wanita Johnson Stoker in 2010. Calling hours will be held Saturday January 16, 2021 from 1-2pm at the Wright-beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY, with a funeral service to follow at 2. We will be following all NYS guidelines regarding social distancing and capacity. Masks are required. Contributions can be made to the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 1250 Fisher Ave., Cortland, NY 13045.
